Explore the Spine and Central Nervous System
The central nervous system (CNS) is the part of the nervous system consisting of the brain and spinal cord housed within the skull and vertebral column. It processes and integrates information it receives from the body. Then coordinates and influences the activity of all parts of the body.
To and from the spinal cord are projections of the peripheral nervous system, which are spinal nerves or segmental nerves. The nerves connect the spinal cord with muscles, joints and skin. This enables voluntary and involuntary control of muscles and sensory signals.
